Beyond our lessons

My students and I aim to connect on a deeper level like that of a master-apprentice than a teacher-student relationship in formal institutions such as schools and universities. By being more open and honest, it becomes easier to overcome any obstacles or challenges in your learning journey, knowing that you have the support of someone you can call a friend.

What do students think about the lessons?

I mainly studied jazz guitar with Bryan for 2 years before auditioning successfully for Leeds College of Music (now Leeds Conservatoire). I had played classical guitar before but knew nothing about jazz. Following his methods really worked as I progressed a lot in only a couple of years (I practised hard, obviously). Since then we have been playing in a duo, gigging and performing, which is fun!

I started as a complete beginner. Over the course of 6 years we covered a lot of ground including playing through pop and indie-rock songs, learning classic riffs, a few jazz standards and standard blues progressions. The theory definitely helped me understand the songs better, which I would have never gotten into without his help and encouragement. Also, my listening horizon has broadened a lot thanks to the recommended listening lists!

Bryan is professional, patient, and helpful with different issues like some bad habits that I have picked up naturally since I was self-taught. I’ve been having lessons for over 4 years now and he continues to surprise me with useful practice ideas which I would never have thought about!

Bryan helped me for a year in becoming a better guitarist overall. I now have great knowledge of chords and techniques.

I’ve had lessons for just under a year now and I am glad to be introduced to chord tones exercises as they helped me develop my fretboard knowledge, which is very important in jazz!

Siu Wong

Jazz Guitarist, Hong Kong

The online lessons were clear and easy to understand. He gets you thinking right away and points you to the right ideas whereas compared to other instructors I’ve had in the past you may get confused.

Ross Torralba

Absolutely brilliant teacher who was able to cater to my learning disability. Lessons were well-planned and tailored to suit me, therefore enhancing my learning immensely.

Annie Hawkes

Leeds College of Music Graduate

One thing I benefited from taking lessons with Bryan, is that I broadened my musical horizons. His efforts in recommending album after album each week not only showed his passion and knowledge in music, but also helped develop mine.

Fred McNiff

Rock Guitarist, New York

Bryan is an incredibly patient and bright music instructor. He always seeks out the kind of instructional tools appropriate to help me learn music at my level of ability and then zones in on my weak points to clarify gray areas for me. Bryan offers the fundamentals of great musical education and presents it well; the rest is up to the student.

I am honoured to be a student of this talented young man and I highly recommend Bryan's lessons to anyone who is truly interested in learning to play guitar with confidence. This can be done in the comfort of your own home by way of Skype online. Thank you Bryan for teaching an old dog new tricks! I truly appreciate your reliability and expertise.
